NY & London: Harper, 1907. First edition.. Green cloth, spine and front cover designed and lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece and five inserted plates. Some moderate wear to spine ends, old stain to fore-edge affecting the margins of about half the book, a bright very good copy in general. Seven weird stories. See Clareson: The Emergence of American Science Fiction: 1880-1915, pg. 84. "In these stories Howells well illustrates the culmination of the development of the 'ghost story' toward a form of science fiction ...." BAL 9783. This is the first binding; several others exist.
