Full-leather boards, with bright gilt lettering, all edges gilt and still bright, red ribbon book mark with frayed edge; pp. 1153-1342, plus full-page ill.--mostly engravings--and facing page explanatory text (including frontis.: b&w reproduction of the Sistine Madonna by Rafael), all immaculate and unmarked anywhere. Beautiful dark green moire-look end pages. Strong paper of finest quality without tanning or foxing; binding firm; some rubbing and discoloration at edges of leather boards, which expert repair could correct. 7" x 10". Truly a treasure.
