About This Item

Yale University Press, New Haven, first edition, 1982. Cloth, gilt cover device, 8vo, 25 cm,. xxi, 418 pp. From the publisher's description: "This bibnography, a companion volume to 'Lay Culture, Learned Culture : Books and Social Change in Strasbourg, 1480-1599', lists all surviving books published in Strasbourg during this period by subject matter and by date. Nine major divisions denote the major classes of books: Catholic, Protestant, biblical literature, humanism, law and politics, science, classical literature, school texts, and vernacular literature. These broad categories are then further divided according to subject matter and each book is placed within the appropriate topical division by date. This method of collating the books makes it possible to discover immediately when a particular genre of books first appeared and the dates during which it continued to be important. Very Good.
