About This Item

Mansfield Centre, Connecticut: Maurizio Martino, 1997. BRAND NEW in perfect condition. STILL SEALED in the publisher's clear plastic SHRINKWRAP. Provided with this copy is the separate 1969 supplement of addenda and corrigenda [which, by the way, is NOT included in the Oxford University Press reprint published in 2000 and again in 2005]. 838 total pages. NO rubbing. NO fading. Bright, clean, square and tight. Sharp corners. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Fresh and crisp -- obviously never read. Undated (but 1997, first Martino printing, published @ $95.00 and "Strictly limited to 150 copies"). Reprint of the 1929 original. This book is a quality production with sewn pages, not glued, and clear, easily legible printing -- even for old geezers such as myself. The catalogue has 7,787 entries, many with Sir William Osler's own comments and incisive notes as to provenance and importance. This is the classic reference which Jeremy Norman called: "the most fascinating and inspiring guide to building a library of rare books in the history of medicine and science ever published." Provided separately with this copy is a 16 page booklet that contains all matter added to the 1969 McGill University edition of this important bibliography, including a new prologue by Lloyd G. Stevenson, plus addenda and corrigenda "accumulated through the last forty years… based primarily on suggestions left by Dr. Francis, and collated from the annotations in his several working copies." Bound in the original gray cloth, stamped in bright gold over a red label on the spine. Webber p. 102: "This exact and authoritative catalogue of the Library collected by Sir William Osler, largely arranged and annotated prior to his death, was bequeathed by him to McGill University… Although Osler worked steadily for years on this catalogue, he was unable to complete it, and after his death the task was carried on, and the entire work edited by W. W. Francis, Librarian of the Osler Library; R. H. Hill of the Bodleian Library… and Archibald Mallock, Librarian of the New York Academy of Medicine… Not the least valuable section is the copious index which is a guide to the vast number of bibliographical notes descriptive of the 7,778 titles that are included." Sheehy EK154: "Particularly valuable for its annotations." Besterman 3770. G&M 6772.. Reprint of 1929 ed. with 1969 supplement. Hardcover. New/in publisher's shrinkwrap. 8vo. xxxvi, 786pp.+16 pp booklet [838 total pages]. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.
