The first edition of this work.Volume I only out of a total of II volumes.Part of the 'Badminton Library' an extensive series of volumes on various sports and pastimes.An extensive and exciting volume on big game shooting by Clive Phillipps-Wolley, mostly focusing on hunting in Africa.Illustrated with a frontispiece, nineteen plates, and  in-text illustrations.With contributions by Samuel W. Baker, W. C. Oswell, F. J. Jackson, Warburton Pike, and F. C. Selous.Illustrations by Charles Whymper, J. Wolf, and H. Willink.Bookplate of Philip Lancaster Brocklehurst to the front paste down. Brocklehurst was created a baronet in 1903, and was the father of Sir Philip Lee Brocklehurst, who was a member of the Nimrod Expedition in Antarctica in 1907 to 1909. Four handwritten letters loosely inserted, to and from Brocklehurst.Two pages of adverts to the rear. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Some spots to the fore edge. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some spots. Prior owner has bound in additional leaves with tipped-in illustrations facing pages 60, 324, and 338, with a tipped-in illustration to the reverse of the plate facing page 314. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
