Color and B&W plates throughout. As a White House photographer through five administrations, Diana Walker enjoyed incomparable access to the world's major movers and shakers. She captured presidents and their families in candid moments behind the scenes and world leaders in the course of momentous events. Walker's way of engaging people and inspiring trust results in portraits that are refreshingly spontaneous and open--giving viewers the feeling that they've met each subject personally. Many of those portrayed are notables in politics, industry, science, entertainment, and the arts--from Bob Hope to Steve Jobs to Mikhail Gorbachev; from Eartha Kitt to John Travolta to Princess Diana and Prince Charles. But Walker also immortalizes the quiet heroism and everyday joys of people who would otherwise remain anonymous and their stories untold--coworkers, homeless people, disaster survivors, and many others. Throughout the book, photographer and subjects narrate many of the 200 portraits, providing background for the moment or event.--From publisher description.
