About This Item

London: William Heinemann Ltd. , 1933 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 7.5" by 5". None. A beautifully presented first edition of John Masefield's novel, in the original, unclipped dust wrapper. First edition, in the publisher's original bright blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.Written by English writer and former Poet Laureate, John Masefield, who is best known for his children's novels and for his poems including 'The Everlasting Mercy' and 'Sea Fever'. Masefield published twelve novels in his life, many of which had a sea theme, such as 'The Bird of Dawning'. This work of adventure fiction is set at sea, as a ship sets sail in a race back hom to London, from China. Disaster strikes as the ship crashes into a steamer boat, with only half the crew managing to get away. This novel follows the remaining crew's journey to safety, with sharks, mutiny and a leaky boat getting in the way. In the publisher's blue cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.Externally, very smart, with very light bumping to the extremities and the odd handling mark. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light edge wear and a touch of sunning to the spine. Some handling marks the the wrap and the odd spot to the reverse. Remnants of a sticker to the spine of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Scattered spotting to the fore edge. Very Good Indeed
