About This Item

Great Britain: David & Charles, 1969. Hardback. First Edition. The Birds of Devon. Wear and a couple of small tears to edge of D/J. This book gives details of the status and distribution of all the birds recorded in the county since the early nineteenth century, although emphasis is laid firmly on the current situation. Devon, with its magnificent scenery emboyding a varied and largely unspoilt coastline, extensive moorlands, densely wooded river valleys, estuaries, conifer forests and mile upon mile of rolling farmland, supports a correspondingly rich and varied avifauna comprising 336 recorded species, of which about 112 breed regularly. The detailed work of the bird observatories at Lundy and Slapton Ley during recent years has added greatly to knowledge of the birds passing through Devon, while the Reports of the Devon Bird Watching and Preserfvation Society published annually since 1928 have provided a mass of data now summarised for yhe first time. Photographic illustrations of some typical Deven habitats and birds, a map and a selected bibliography combine to make this an indispensable book of reference on the birds of this most beautiful county. Illustrated. 293 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall Octavo. Hardback.
