Bates was an English author best known for works such as Love for Lydia and The Darling Buds of May. The present set is comprised of two of three first editions of his autobiographical work, preceded by 1969 volume The Vanished World. Taking up his life from 1926, when he was twenty and had just published his first novel (The Two Sisters) in The Blossoming World, arriving in The World in Ripeness to his experiences with the R.A.F. and reflections upon his life and career. Complete with price clipped dust wrappers, featuring delightful line drawings in text. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely. Dust wrapper price clipped and excellent with minor shelf wear only. J. Hodges bookplate to verso front free endpaper vol. II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Fine
