About This Item
Farmer entered the University of Washington after winning a national essay contest while at West Seattle High School. Her essay, "God Dies," was influenced by her precocious interest in Nietzche. She performed in several University of Washington plays under the tutelage of Drama Dept. head Glenn Hughes. (Hughes would later appear in the 1950s episode of "This is Your Life" that was devoted to Farmer.) His influence was edifying: Upon graduation Farmer embarked for New York, where she became involved with Clifford Odets and his Group Theatre. Scarce piece of Farmerana,
