About This Item
This is an antique copy of "BOOK OF THE BLACK BASS" together with "More About the Black Bass" by James Henshall. 1920; Stewart & Kidd Company; Cincinnati. The book features a frontispiece portrait of Henshall, and numerous full-page and in-text illustrations. Also included in this edition is the Supplement, "More About the Black Bass," and is complete in one volume. The contents are arranged as follows: Scientific and Life History; Tools, Tackle and Implements; Angling and Fly Fishing. There is an Index and four pages of advertisements at the back.
From the Preface: "The 'Book of the Black Bass' is of an entirely practical nature regarding its subject-matter and its illustrations. It has been written more with a view to instruct than to amuse or entertain. The reader will, therefore, look in vain between its covers for those rhetorical flights, poetic descriptions, entertaining accounts and pleasing illustrations of the pleasures and vicissitudes of angling, which are usually found in works of like character."
Condition:
Clean back cover; there is a thin, light stain at the bottom-right corner of the front cover; light soiling and a tiny white stain spot on the spine. Cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine, and at the cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. I found six pages that have a line or two of text underlined in red pen, or a vertical line in red pen in the outer margin to highlight a paragraph. Page 313 has "(profit)" written in blue pen in the outer margin. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
