Small 8vo in 19th century library binding of dark brown three-quarter leather over marbled paper covered boards. Spine lettered in gilt. The institution's identification is blindstamped onto the leather portion of the front board. 225 pp. with list of "Roses Most Approved By bThe Best Cultivators of the Present Day" and section of "New Roses of 1866". Engraved chapter title pages and chapter headers with tissue guards. A tight, internally clean example, rubbing and scuffing to the leather. A classic work on American roses by an author most known for his historical books. With sections the Culture of The Rose (ope air, potted, propagation, miscellaneous operations; Decriptions of the rose with subsections on 17 varieties of the summer rose and 12 of the autumn rose.
