Although Mayor Walker was never charged with anything, his administration was riddled with corruption, and he himself suffered from the scandal of a long-standing extra-marital affair with Ziegfield Girl Betty Compton. The sourcework for the 1957 movie "Beau James", starring Bob Hope as Walker, and also starring Vera Miles, Paul Douglas, Alexis Smith and Darren McGavin.
