The work perfectly expresses Scott's fascination with Scottish history, a love of his which is reflected further in his influential historical fiction.Volume I illustrated with a vignette title page, and thirty-eight plates.Volume II illustrated with a vignette title page, and forty-five plates.Written by the noted Scottish author Sir Walter Scott, co-authored by Luke Clennell and John Creig.Collated, bound without additional title page to Volume II, and eight plates to Volume I.Stamp to the recto to the front free endpapers, dated 26th April 1912. In the original morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing and marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Spines are a little faded. Stamp to the recto to the front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with some odd spots and odd handling marks. Pages 3 to 6 of Volume I are detaching. Good
