A collection of almost 300 photographs taken bu Civil War photographer Mathew Brady and his assistants during the war, often under very difficult conditions , depicting the battlefields, weapons, officers and troops, uniforms, the sick and wounded and the devastation of war. First edition, first printing. About 10 3/4 X 11 1/4 inches,256 pages, iincluding index,and introduction. Bound in faux brown paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Dustjacket's front cover shows photo of Federal troops relaxing behind an earthwork at Petersberg, Va., with a photo of a priest conducting mass for the heavily Catholic 69th NYS Militia. Boards show minor damage including bumped lower corners and minor edge and surface wear. Text is complete, clean, without noticeable damage or flaws. No highlighting or underrlining. Dustjacket shows light surface and edgewear, minor wear at upper corners and pair of half-inch tears at top of spine. . Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 2000.
