On February 27th 1902 Lieutenant P. J. Hancock, Lieutenant G. R. Witton and Lieutenant H. Morant were executed at Pretoria, South Africa, on the orders of General Kitchener, for the murders of South African civilians. The case has been a cause célèbre ever since, as there has always been doubts about the impartiality of the court-martial / Lord Kitchener's orders / just what the men were executed for.
