About This Item

London England: Book Club Assiociates. Very Good/Poor. 1974. 1st Book Club Associated Edition. Cloth. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall Quarto Hardback Hardcover. Britannia. A History of Roman Britain. Slight browning to edge of pages through age. Wear and tear to D/J. Piece of D/J missing from top edge of front D/J. Professor Frere writes with the full apparatus of scholarship but in a way that easily be appreciated. He starts with a narrative of events, and follows with chapters on various aspects of Roman Britain - the army (which was the real instrument of Romanization, producing everything from sculpture to new citizens), the towns, trade, country life, economic factors, and the civil administration. Professor Frere, himself and archaeologist, succeeds admirably in weaving the new knowledge gained by excavation with the evidence of the texts and instricptions. Illustrated. 432 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.) .
