About This Item
London: Adam and Charles Black, 1912. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6.5". Mortimer Menpes. A beautifully illustrated topographical guide to Brittany, in the smart original cloth binding. This work is one of a larger series produced by A and C Black, which saw many decoratively bound and profusely illustrated topographical works on various countries. Menpes went on a sketching tour of Brittany in 1880 and this work contains several sketches from this journey. Illustrated throughout by Mortimer Menpes with the text written by his daughter Dorothy. With seventy-five colour illustrations. Mortimer Menpes was an Australian-born artist, author, printmaker and illustrator. This work is a reprint published seven years after the work's initial publication. A smart example of this comprehensive guide which takes the reader on a journey around many parts of Brittany, discussing its history and culture. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Minor fading to the spine. Light rubbing to the head and tail of spine in addition to the extremities. Gift inscription to the recto of front endpaper, 'L M From M. A. E, May 1921'. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd spots to pages. Very Good
