Little, Brown & Co., 1945. Reprint. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Louis Agassiz Fuertes. Inscribed "To know animals is to love them" and signed by Burgess to half-title page, without personalization, and dated 1946. Light green cloth covered boards with color illustration to front. Light soil and waterspotting, minor edgewear and rubbing, and lightly bumped spine ends and corners. Spine browned. Binding shaken, with hinges starting. Text clean. Interior lightly toned and foxed. Color and b/w plates. 2 1/2" tear to one page, 2" tear to a second, and a 5/8" chip to another. Several pages with corner creases. Gift inscription to ffep. No stickers or stamps. Not ex-library. 363 pp.
