About This Item

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1991. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. The author's celebrated, first - and indeed only - novel which despite attracting acclaim from the critics and winning several prizes, failed to find much of an audience at the time of its release. Re-issued by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 2021, the book is now considered something of a classic of Scottish literature and is currently enjoying international success. Sadly, the author passed away earlier this year. Original burgundy-coloured boards, pp. 151. An attractive, square, tight copy. Pushed at the crown a little, the block is lightly tanned but free from owner names etc. About Fine. The dustjacket is unclipped with price of £14.99. There is minor rubbing to both the spine tips and the corners with accompanying loss of the laminate but not paper. Minor scrape to front panel near the titles but no nicks or tears - a VG dustjacket. Exceptionally scarce, the print-run would have been limited for a first novel but even so the book was eventually remaindered.
