About This Item

London: The Egoist LTD , 1919. First edition. Hardback. Very Good. 8" by 5". None . The first edition of Lewis Wyndham's collection of essays discussing modern art and architecture. The first edition of this work. With a singular leaf of publisher's advertisements to rear. One of a print run of 1,000 copies printed. Without the scarce publisher's flyer for Lewis's debut novel 'Tarr'. A collection of essays discussing the political aspects of art, architecture, futurism, French realism, Cezanne, Matisse, Derain, Picasso, and Raphael; example of Lewis's work in the immediate post-vorticis period. Wyndham Lewis was a British writer, best known as a co-founder of the Vorticist movement in art and editor of the literary magazine 'Blast.' Rebacked with the original publisher's marbled boards restored, titles in black on paper label to front board. Externally smart with light shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, boards darkened to perimeters. Previous ownership inscription in pencil to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
