About This Item

Paris, Masson, 1959-1968. 4to (27.0 x 21.6 cm). 483 pp. [36; 11; 22; 292; 122]; 187 text figures [2; 2; 2 (maps); 33; 148]; 4 plates [3; 0; 0; 0; 1]. Contemporary half morocco over marbled boards. Spine with five raised bands and gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Edges speckled. = A very nice bound copy of the results of these zoological expeditions, consisting of the general introductions by the leader of the expeditions, the French carcinologist Jacques Forest (1920-2012), and with Forest's papers on new and little known Brachyura, prinipally crabs and hermit crabs. There are interesting photographs of the landscapes, the dredging operations and some of the catch, in particular crabs. Also with many maps of the islands, and with detailed drawings of new and rare species of crabs. The papers, probably all that has been published by Forest and some co-wortkers (second authors) in this period on this subject, were published on behalf of the Institut Océanographique in Monte Carlo, in the institute's Annales. In all a very nicely bound and important collection of papers by Forest, and a unique item.
