Early work by George Oliver Shields (1846-1925), a writer on outdoor sports who would establish the sporting magazine Recreation in 1894. Shields was known for his writing, which was sometimes published under the name "Coquina," and his conservation activism; he was also known for picking public fights with fish and game sportsmen, which led to his 1905 ouster from the magazine he'd founded.
