Page 48/49 has offesetting otherwise clean and in near-fine condition, in lightly stained but very good original slipcase. Voltaire's classic philosophical satire (first published 1759), with twenty illustrations in colour. 1st thus. Boards in slip-case.

Synopsis

Ever since 1759, when Voltaire wrote "Candide" in ridicule of the notion that this is the best of all possible worlds, this world has been a happier place for readers. Voltaire wrote it in three days, and many generations have found that its laughter does not grow old.
