Original half leather over fine Japanese paper covered boards, with gold lettering on spine. Book housed in its illustrated paper covered chemise in matching illustrated paper covered slipcase. Limitation page signed by Rudolf Kriesch and Kurt Desch. Striking limited edition of this French satire first published in 1759 in which Voltaire depicts the worst of the world and his pathetic hero's desperate effort to fit it into an optimistic outlook. This work is splendidly illustrated throughout with 62 original lithographs by Rudolf Kriesch. Moderate rubbing and sunning along edges of slipcase. Chemise with spine slightly age-toned, with minor and sporadic damp-staining. Text in German. Slipcase and chemise in overall good, binding and interior in very good condition.
