About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co., 1898. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5.5". I. W. Taber. A very smart copy of Kipling's Captains Courageous, with illustrations by I. W. Taber. An early reprint of this novel in the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with binder's label to the rear paste down. All edges gilt. Ink inscription to the half title. 21 plates. Collated complete. Captains Courageous: A Story of the Grand Banks by Rudyard Kipling, with illustrations by I. W. Taber (1830-1912). This novel follows the adventures of Harvey Cheyne Jr., the spoiled son of a railroad tycoon, after he is saved from drowning by a Portuguese fisherman in the north Atlantic. The novel originally appeared as a serialisation in McClure's. In publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just a little bumping to the extremities and head and tail of the spine. Spine is slightly faded, but overall colour is good and gilt is bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot. Faint tidemarks from the half title page to page 19, not affecting the text or illustrations. Very Good
