John Beckwith, then Deputy Keeper in the Department of Architecture and Sculpture at the Victoria and Albert Museum, discusses and illustrates a group of medieval ivory caskets carved by Arab craftsmen at Cordoba. The caskets, many of which are of great intrinsic beauty, form a fascinating record of Arab civilisation in Southern Spain. Bibliography.
