Catch the Spirit tells the personal stories of 20 award-winning teen volunteers in their own words. These otherwise typical boys and girls from a variety of cultural backgrounds have given countless hours to start and run projects in their communities. Readers learn that kids can do anything; that community service is a lot of fun (in addition to a lot of work); and that what really counts is how badly you want something and how hard you are willing to work for it. How-to information and extensive resources are included. The subjects who tell their stories in this book are among the winners of an America's Spirit of Community Award, a program sponsored by the Prudential Insurance Company and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Every year, about a dozen teens are given awards for their community-service projects (out of more than 10,000 applicants)
