Pocket intact FPD, Names of churches FLEP, slight Tinge of toning, else content appears as and unblemished with near fine pictorial green boards displaying minimal surface/edge wear, as shown. The story centers on Rose, her widowed aunt Madame Francesca Bernard, and her little niece Isabel, whose lives are affected by the appearance of Colonel Kent, an old acquaintance, and neighbor, and his adult son Allison. The Crosby twins, who are unusual and exuberant young people that put society at naught, and an eccentric doctor who specializes in the impossible are two more individuals that significantly influence their lives. The reader is unsure of the historical setting or even the decade the story is set in due to the sparse "wide-scope" descriptions, but this makes it easier to comprehend the story's main point since it is all about how the characters' hearts and lives fit together in the small spaces of their town, their garden, their friendships, and their daily lives.

Description:
This antiquarian book has been reconstructed & stablized. Contents are fairly stable, mostly weaker on edges, but is more stable now.I remember as well as though it were yesterday the first time I met Auntie Sue. It happened during my first roaming visit to the Ozarks, when I had wandered by chance, one day, into the Elbow Rock neighborhood. Twenty years it was, at least, before the time of this story. She was standing in the door of her little schoolhouse, the ruins of which you may still see, halfway up the long hill from the log house by the river, where the most of this story was lived.
It was that season of the year when the gold and brown of our Ozark Hills is overlaid with a filmy veil of delicate blue haze and the world is hushed with the solemn sweetness of the passing of the summer. And as the old gentlewoman stood there in the open door of that rustic temple of learning, with the deep-shadowed, wooded hillside in the background, and, in front, the rude clearing with its crooked rail fence along wh…Read more

This poetry was often set to music in the form of Lieder by notable composers such as Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. Heine's later verse and prose were distinguished by their satirical wit and irony and their often radical political content, that led to many of his works being banned by German authorities. This however helped to increase his popularity, making him one of the best known artists of the 'Young Germany' movement. Whilst he worked as the translator for this collection of works by Heine, Charles Godfrey Leland was a notable writer in his own right, who like Heine travelled extensively. Synopsis: Hermann, son of the wealthy innkeeper in a small town near Mainz, is sent by his mother to bring clothes and food to the refugees which have set up camp near their town. They have fled their villages on the western side of the Rhine river, now occupied by French revolutionary troops, in order to seek refuge on the eastern side. On his way to the camp, Hermann meets Dorothea, a young maid who assists a woman in her childbed on her flight. Overwhelmed by her courage, compassion, and beauty, Hermann asks Dorothea to distribute his donations among her poor fellow refugees.

Interview with Eve of Eve's Reads
- When did you get started in bookselling?
- I owned a brick & mortar store until 2007 and was last one out of the building when they closed it. Since then, sell exclusively on Biblio. The Monies from the sales go to a lady approaching 90 who does all of the work on the books solo. All books are described and cleaned.
- What drew you to bookselling?
- School...... lool
- Did you have any mentors in becoming a bookseller?
- No
- What are your specialties as a dealer?
- I have old, antiquarian, rare and autographed books, among some others like text, etc.
- What's the most amazing book you've ever sold?
- There has been quite a few. I have some awesome books and sooooo very old.
- What is your favorite part of being a bookseller?
- We like to sell clean books. When a book is not particularly old or collectible, it is cleaned thoroughly to make it a new as possible. I remove library enveloped, stickers, markings, whenever possible, which is most of the time, and send them out as new as possible as I can get. All blemishes are described to the best of my ability. Old and antiquarian books are sent out in the best condition possible without disturbing the things that make it what it is ... History of the book is described, whenever possible ... We do no sell current books nor pulp fiction. Everything that goes out of here, leaves looking as new and clean as possible for your pleasure. Thank you for taking time to read this.
- Do you have an open storefront or have you in the past?
- I did have up until 2007 now I don't and am retired, except from this. I had around 70,000 books for 9 years until the closed the downtown building. For the last number of years I have been working on the book that I sell personally. I check each and every book that leaves here. Try my best to remove any blemishes reinforce weak pages and spine and make them as clean and possible before leaving here. No assumptions are made. However, I do not do anything to autographed, antiquarian and rare books that would change their appearance nor value in the negative. To the best of my ability, my books are described, by me, & strive to do my best to send quality books for their age and value. All booke leave here with insurance ...
- If so, do/did you have any bookstore pets?
- Do you mean the 4 legged kind? lol If so yes .... Have finished 46 Champions. I have now become the loving human of the California Spangled Cat.
- What is the funniest / strangest / scariest thing that ever happened in your store?
- Lots of things .... I am known for giving a few quips now and then. It was right after 911 and it was serious.
- What is your favorite bookshop (other than your own)?
- None
- What do you personally like to read? Collect?
- Bios and historical bios, True Crime & Mysteries ...
- What's your favorite book you personally own? Would you sell it, if the price were right?
- Cumanda .... Given to me by Ozzie and perhaps, but would require some thinking.
- What one book would you buy if price were no object?
- None
- If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring three books, what would they be?
- I have no answer to this but I sure can think of the animals .... lol As an after thought, I pay insurance on all the books. For Protection.
