About This Item

First Edition, first Impression of Ian McEwan's first novel (preceded by two short story collections: First Love, Last Rites and In Between the Sheets). 8vo, green cloth with gilt titles on spine, grey end papers, illustrated dust jacket with author portrait on rear. Unclipped dust jacket priced £3.50 inside. 138pp. Foxing to page edges, hence the price and condition status. Still a nice book and otherwise clean. 'In the relentless summer heat, four abruptly orphaned children retreat into a shadowy, isolated world, and find their own strange and unsettling ways of fending for themselves.' A modern classic.

Synopsis

Ian McEwan has written two collections of stories, as well as many novels and screenplays. He won the 1998 Booker Prize for Amsterdam , and was shortlisted for the 2001 Booker Prize for Atonement .
