About This Item
New York: Crown Publishers, 1951. Hardcover. 8vo. Tan paper over boards with blue spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xii, 302pp, (6pp). Map endpapers. Near fine/good plus. Jacket quite edgeworn and rubbed, with spine sunned and edge chips. A tight and nice later (10th) printing of this popular and gossipy (to cite jacket front panel) "Low-Down on the Big Town." Interestingly, half-title page bears business card of Ralph G. Newman (1912-98, founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop) and facing page bears a "U.S. Postage Stamp Centenary 1847-1947" commemorative envelope (not first day cover) with large ornamental Chicago Philatelic Society cachet at left, postally cancelled in Chicago and addressed to Newman.
