About This Item

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1899. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 8" by 6". Not Stated. The first edition of Earle's comprehensive history of childhood in the American colonies, in very smart condition. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Alice Morse Earle (1851-1911) was an American historian and author. She focused on small sociological details and her works are consequently invaluable for modern social historians. She wrote a number of books on colonial America (and especially the New England region) such as Curious Punishments of Bygone Days. This work concerns childhood in colonial America, with chapters including Children's Dress, School, Games and Pastimes, Oldtime Discipline, Penmanship and Letters, and Children's Toys. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Externally very smart, with minimal bumping to the extremities. Tear to the front paste down by the hinge, but the hinge itself is unharmed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
