Original brown half-cloth on beige boards. DJ has interior tape repairs of two 2-inch tears and general edge reinforcement top and bottom. An unassuming and nostalgic look back to the American Civil War through the lives of a family who lost two sons in it. Much historical detail adds greatly to the value, from accounts of land transfers to descriptions of implements used in everyday life. Bladensfield House was built about 1690, and its 400 acres of land abound with wildlife and mystical fragrance. Essay by Peter Matthiessen, one of the family and an established author in his own right. 141 pp. Signed on title by Mary Matthiessen Wheelwright(Director from Maine for Stratford Hall) in inscription to the Kenmore Regents..
