New York: Harper & Brothers, Franklin Square, 1889. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. The first edition of this fiction novel about the 1856 Louisiana hurricane. The first edition, in the first state binding. First published serially in 'Harper's Monthly' magazine in 1888. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Lacking very scarce dust wrapper. This work was written by Lafcadio Hearn, a Greek-Irish writer who is best known for his works on Japanese culture. This fiction novel was one of a few works Hearn wrote on Louisiana and is based on the hurricane which hit Louisiana in 1856, telling the story of a young girl called Chita who survives the hurricane and the destruction of the island. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth. Lacking very scarce dust wrapper. Externally smart with a slight lean,, slight fading to the spine and rubbing to the extremities and joints. Light spotting to the endpapers with a bookseller's label to the rear pastedown. Internally firmly bound with lightly age toned and clean pages. Very Good
