About This Item

London: F. Frith, 1855. Near Fine. 1 albumen print 203 x 166 mm. on original printed mount. Mat is 20 x 16 inches. The photograph includes a boy and young man standing in the doorway on the left and a boy standing in the archway of the gate. Shows two shops through the gateway. The photographer, Francis Bedford (1815-1894), initially followed his father into architecture, but by the early 1850s he had become a photographer. No date of publication, but Bedford is known to have taken other photographs in Canterbury in 1855. In Near Fine Condition: slight discoloration of mount; otherwise, clean and bright.
