New York, London and Toronto: Longmans, Green & Co., 1958. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Octavo. 79 pages. Hardcover with a white, orange and green dust jacket. The jacket is rubbed and foxed but sound. Jacket is price-clipped. The book itself shows light wear. There is some foxing to the endpapers. The text is a little toned but generally clean. A fictional story of General Robert E. Lee's first Christmas at home after the surrender at Appomattox at the end of the Civil War. Helen Topping Miller (1884-1960) was born in Michigan and moved to Morristown, Tennessee in 1908. She married a journalist there in 1910 and spent time teaching and writing there, in Georgia, and North Carolina (she lived near Asheville from 1924 to 1942). She wrote a number of novels and short stories and poems and began to write more historical fiction in the 1940s. She wrote several Christmas stories with historical figures, beginning with "Christmas at the Hermitage" in 1955.
