About This Item

[N.p.: n.p., 1966-1967]. Several pages ripped, else very good in hand-painted boards, with a long horizontal crack across the rear board.. Unique Vietnam War era photo album, created by an unknown American soldier stationed at the Chu Lai Marine Corps base. Features 118 color and black-and-white photographs in a range of formats, mostly 3 1/2 X 2 1/2 inches, with a few larger prints. Images include a mixture of portraits, Vietnam landscapes, and army scenes, adhered to the album's internal pages. An overwhelming number of photographs have been captioned with the depicted individuals' names or the represented scenery's locations. A few prints have been damaged in storage, with fragments of the album page paper stuck to the recto, and two prints fixed to the verso of the preceding page; tape marks on the adjacent pages indicate that several photographs are missing. Penetrating portrait of one Vietnam soldier's personal life, before and during the war, with rare images of the Chu Lai base and surrounding region.
