New York: AREA, 1985. Minor surface wear to card-stock, with minor toning to upper margins of verso (not showing through); a near fine copy of this celebrated relic of the New York art scene.. Invitation card (10 x 8 inches) for the opening of the "ART" themed exhibition at Area nightclub. For this iconic image, Michael Halsband was commissioned to capture a group portrait of some of the participating artists at the popular haunt Mr. Chow. In addition to the trinity of Warhol, Haring, and Basquiat-conspicuously mimicking a waiter-those depicted include: Francesco Clemente, Ronnie Cutrone, Red Grooms, David Hockney, Alex Katz, LeRoy Neiman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Dennis Oppenheim, Kenny Scharf, and Tony Shafrazi. Later that year, Halsband would photograph Basquiat and Warhol as boxers, for their joint Shafrazi exhibition.

Extensive photographic collection of over 1000 helicopter pictures, most silver gelatin prints, collated into six 2 1/2-inch thick Leitz binders, and organized by manufacturer and model. Three binders are dedicated to the American company Bell Helicopters and are titled Bell, Bell UH-1, and UH1D; with two focused on the "Huey" model, widely used by the US Army during the Vietnam War. Two binders are titled SUD AVN ALII75-77 and SUD AVN ALII (F/BGS/Bw), both concentrated on the French helicopter maker Sud Aviation, and their then primary model, the Alouette. Collection of twenty-five 3 3/8 X 4 1/4 inch Polaroid snapshots, mostly in color, taken during an American soldier's deployment in An Khê, Vietnam. Features images of soldiers grilling, drinking, and sitting in their bunkers, with a few double exposures and a couple of photographs of female civilians. Prints have been adhered to cards, with, in several instances, notes penned on the versos. Fascinating vernacular document of soldier life in one of the most strategically significant military zones of the Vietnam conflict.

Extensive archive of photographs and drag racing ephemera, all of which belonged to and documents the work of Jan Riedel. Contents include 252 loose photographs (143 color, 109 black and white: 232 snapshots, 20 enlargements), 30 film negatives, 20 pencil and ink drawings of various sizes, approximately 200 racing time slips and certificates, 150 advertising and event stickers, approximately 80 invoices, 40 ticket stubs and participant passes, and 8 NHRA Rule Booklets. New York: Snakemonkey Studio, N.d.. Some plates worn and stained; overall very good example of working notes.. Archive of 25 pizzeria style paper plates, the first 14 of which appear to be a rough story board for a short film by legendary underground East Village animator M. Henry Jones, as identified by an opening shot crediting his long-running "Snakemonkey Studios". The prodigious ball point drawings and notations throughout refer variously to the garage rock band The Fleshtones, a long time Jones collaborator, as well as lists describing various props and illustrations needed for the project (skeletons and go-go girls seemed to factor in heavily). A student of Harry Smith, Jones is credited for his late 1970s music videos and overall underground aesthetic that would be widely co-opted by MTV's early New Wave style.

Album of twenty architectural photographs. Quarto sheets in plastic comb binding. Consists of 9 color and 11 black and white photographs, tipped in, some now loose from glue. Various sizes, ranging from 10 X 8 1/4 inches to 8 1/4 X 6 1/2 inches. Some with pen notations, including year, either to margin of photograph or directly to page. [New York: n.p., 1983-1987]. Contents uniformly in near fine to fine condition.. Collection of 120 flyers and posters from New York's hottest and most inventive nightclub, Area, during the mid-1980s. Although it was a disco, Area was a purely visual, happenings-based venue, where New York's art, music, design, fashion, and literary worlds collided; Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, or Jean-Michel Basquiat might be brushing up against Michael Forbes, David Byrne, or Georgio Armani, and Stephen Saban would be there to remind them what happened afterwards in his Details magazine column. Unlike other downtown clubs that focused on music or dancing, Area was driven by art and the scene that it engendered, through its theme nights, elaborate installations, and inventive flyers that seemed to embody Warhol's concept of business art. Bifolium invitation to an exhibition of Cy Twombly's gouaches and drawings; his first solo show in Germany, curated by Rudolf Zwirner at the Folkwang-Museum in Essen. Illustrated with b&w reproduction of a Twombly work to front panel, with a sartorial portrait of him to interior, alongside brief bio and exhibition history.

Hamburg: Wartenberg, 2001. Near fine in embossed leather boards.. Thick album, possibly a maquette, of 64 glossy color photographs in sleeves, each measuring 9 1/2 x 12 inches, all taken in the back seat of a late 1990s style limousine. Quarto. The lurid, color saturated images portray various passengers mise-en-scéne, with most verging on a Euro-trashy porno-chic surrealism-props include teddy bears, a blow-up sex doll, roasted chicken, and snakes (twice). Bizarre and enjoyable.

Roma: Ugo Ferranti, 1978. Minor edge-wear, else near fine.. Announcement card (4 x 6 inches) for the exhibition "Cinque Giovani Artisti" at Rome's Ugo Ferranti gallery (opening Wed. June 18, 1978), in which Francesca Woodman's photographs were exhibited alongside the paintings and sculptures of four of her Italian contemporaries: Bruno Ceccobelli, Gianni Dessi, Giuseppe Gallo, and Angelo Ségneri. As she wrote in 1980: "While I was in Rome my Junior year, I began to work with the ideas that presently occupy me. I also met a number of Italian artists who shared similar concerns in other mediums. In June, we had a show at the Ugo Ferranti Gallery, my first exhibition in a prestigious gallery.

Images include a mixture of portraits, Vietnam landscapes, and army scenes, adhered to the album's internal pages. An overwhelming number of photographs have been captioned with the depicted individuals' names or the represented scenery's locations. Each print is SIGNED by Rickard, with "N.A proof" written on the verso. A series of images of violence and subversion on the fringes of American society, culled entirely from YouTube videos. A compelling rumination on contemporary U.S. culture in an age of media saturation, with themes of brutality, criminality, and self-promotion interwoven throughout. Includes 96 prints in a range of formats, with the majority measuring 5 X 8 inches and 6 X 8 inches.

Unique vernacular photo album and scrapbook, detailing the small town racing culture of Rupert, Idaho. Extraordinarily lavish in size and execution, the album features photographs by Dr. Elvin Cutler, a photography hobbyist of local notoriety recognized for his images of the Minidoka Speedway, its drivers, and attendees. Includes 89 original color and black-and-white photographs, ranging in size from snapshot to 8 X 10 inches, with several larger format prints. Many have been signed by the photographer with his nickname "Doc"; several others have been annotated, with humorous captions written underneath. Large screenprint poster on thick stock (33 x 23.5 inches), announcing Dorothy Iannone's exhibition at Mike Steiner's Studiogalerie (Feb. 24 - Mar. 19); one of her first shows in Berlin, after arriving on a DAAD scholarship in 1976. The same composition-pairing the words from Emma Lazarus' The New Colossus with a colorful image of an eroticized Statue of Liberty-being used to produce an edition of 100 screenprints in the same year (less the exhibition details). With the composition revisited in 2019 as a painted installation at Peres Projects.

San Francisco: Self-published, [1981]. Handbill in fine condition, with purple handstamp to verso: "For deposit only to the account of Bruce Conner.. Handbill (3 x 6 inches), printed recto-only to textured paper. On February 5, 1981, Bruce Conner appeared before the American Arbitration Association to seek restitution from the Braunstein/Quay Gallery for failure to pay him for works sold, as well as for damages suffered to consigned works from improper storage. The arbitrator awarded Conner on both counts. Regardless, a few months later, to announce a celebration for the Quay Gallery's twentieth anniversary, Conner was listed in their press release as one of the Gallery's featured artists. To protest this shamelessness, Conner designed this handbill, to be dispersed at the anniversary party by his Assistant, Kristine Stiles, costumed as his emissary in business suit and heels. Unique album documenting the Dravosburg Merchants baseball team, containing 68 original black-and-white photographs, 58 newspaper clippings, 2 letters, and 1 card adhered to the pages. Includes mostly 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 inch prints, depicting baseball players and tournaments, accompanied by the album creator's handwritten captions. While the photographs were mostly taken in and around Pittsburgh, there is also a series of images of Okinawa, presumably taken while the athletes were stationed there during World War II. An insightful document of America's favorite pastime, with several great photographs of the era. With a photocopy laid in.

New York: The Museum of Modern Art, 1971. Sculpture tested, but not working, otherwise appears near fine. Box with long, closed tear at the top fold, some creases, and overall signs of light wear. Scarce.. Limited Edition, number 9/10. Motorized plastic sculpture in stenciled and spray-painted cardboard box. SIGNED and numbered on the battery case door at the base of the sculpture. Apparently a limited edition release of the more common white Float sculpture also issued by MoMA via their gift shop. The spray-painted stencil reads "E.A.T. / BLUE / 9-10 / R.B. '71". Dated a year after his seminal work on the Pepsi Pavilion, created by Experiments in Design and Technology (E.A.T.). In addition to the animations for which he is best known, Robert Breer also created a series of "floats", motorized abstract shapes that he would parade, often through rural landscapes. This MoMA edition represents a miniaturized version of the Float sculpture series. Manufactured by Bandai, the Japanese plastic toy producer.

A fine copy in cream cloth boards, with publisher's plexiglass slipcase; all elements housed within the scarce foam-lined mailing box, with titles printed directly to front panel. Box lightly worn with a few small stains, but well-preserved. A beautiful copy of an evocation of mid-90s L.A. by two of its foremost artists.. Limited Edition. No. 61 of 170 hand-numbered copies. Perhaps the greatest visual achievement of John Martin's Black Sparrow Press, featuring 15 color serigraphs from Ken Price-of Los Angeles scenes in smoggy hues-to accompany a series of poems from Charles Bukowski (e.g. Traffic Report, Junk, Piss, Cockroach, Traffic Ticket, Flophouse, Bright Red Car, Decline). As called-for, four of the serigraphs are SIGNED by Price, with all of them blind-stamped by artist's and publisher's marks; housed in a die-cut tray built-into the rear board.
