About This Item

Philadelphia: W. B. Saunders. Fourth American Edition from the Fith German Edition, authorized translation with additions by Francis H. Stuart. Written on the blank leaves in the front of the book is a three page ink essay, titled "Life", and signed by R. G. Ingersoll, the famous Illinois orator and attorney. The writing is distinctly different from the ink signature on the flyleaf, J. Mather Pfeiffenberger, who was a physician in Alton, Illinois, which is written under his signature. The essay may be an original penned essay by Ingersoll. Book has a leather binding, scuffed on edges but tight. 603 pp. plus ads, with b & w illustrations. . Good Plus. Hardcover. 1898.
