First American Edition 8vo size blue clothbound hardcover with photo illustrated dust jacket and black and white photograph of author on frontispiece; 185 toned pages. From jacket: "This is the first edition of the collected poems of the late Ralph Hodgson. Several of Hodgson's poems are considered lyric classics and are among the most widely read and anthologized pieces of the last fifty years. John Crowe Ransom calls "Eve" and "The Bull" "great wonderful poems that will live forever." On the publication on an earlier volume, The Times, London wrote: "Mr. Hodgson...has played an essential part in bringing the language of poetry back to common speech." Spare, haunting, melodic, his voice has won a permanent place in our living language." Ralph Hodgson (1871-1962) was an English poet. Although born in England, he taught and worked in Japan and the United States. Among his honors are: Edmond de Polignac Prize, 1914 Order of the Rising Sun, 1939 Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry, 1954 Pages are lightly toned; jacket spine is sunned and there is a small sunned band on the front, jacket has moderate wear. There is some light foxing to jacket. . First American. Cloth. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
