UK: Cobden Sanderson, 1934. First Edition . Cloth. Very Good ++/Very Good+. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A collection of books and associated personal ephemera relating to the poet C.H.O. Scaife (Christopher Henry Oldham Scaife), from the collection of his brother Leicester. 'Scaife, Christopher Henry Oldham Scaife (1900-88) was educated at St George's School, Harpenden, King's College, London, and St John's College, Oxford, where he read modern history (1920-23). At that time he was a regular attender at the Russell and Palmerston Club meetings. He was secretary and president of the Oxford Union Society. He joined the Transvaal Chamber of Mines (1924-25), worked as an actor with the Anmer Hall Company (1925), was assistant editor of the Egyptian Gazette (Alexandria, 1927), senior lecturer in English (1928), assistant professor (1937) and acting professor in charge of the department (1939-40) at Fuad Al-awal University. Later he was educational adviser to the Iraq government (1945), British Council visiting professor of English (1947), professor (1957) and chairperson of the Department of English (1957-66) at the American University of Beirut.' Hardback with dustjacket, measures 7.5 inches (19cm) by 5 inches (13cm), 92 pages. There is a little shelf wear with age, otherwise the book is in good condition. - Tones & Overtones: Selected Poems 1926-1976. Limited edition of 400 copies signed by the author with a personalised inscription to his brother. Hardback with dustjacket, measures 9 inches (23cm) by 6 inches (15cm), 122 pages. There is a little shelf wear/fading to the spine of the dustjacket with age, otherwise the book is in good condition. - In Middle Age: 30 Poems by C.H.O. Scaife. Published by Basil Blackwell, Oxford in 1953. Softcover, measures 7.75 inches (19.5cm) by 5 inches (13cm), 48 pages. There is a little shelf wear with age, otherwise the book is in good condition. Ephemera: - An original manuscript of a poem composed by Scaife for Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee 1977. A little wear with age, overall in good condition. - A photograph of Scaife taken in the Austrian Alps by his mother in 1930. Good condition. - A photograph of a pencil portrait of Scaife - inscribed on the reverse by Scaife for his brother - Baghdad 1943. Good condition. - An article from Oxford University journal Isis (1924) profiling Scaife as President of the Union. Some wear/creasing with age and a rust mark from an old paper clip. - A characture of Scaife from The Graphic (1924). Crease, tears and a rust mark from an old paper clip.
