Philadelphia: McLaughlin Brothers' Book and Job Printing Establishment, 1856. Softcover. Fair/no jacket. 16 pages, 23cm tall, octavo. A pamphlet for the Philadelphia Guano Company promoting the use of Venezualan or Colombian guano on farmers' fields. Included are chemical analysis of different guanos; the relative value of ammoniacal and phosphatic guanos; the superiority of Venezualan guano over Mexican and Peruvian guanos; and more. The Philadelphia Guano Company was chartered in 1852 and began importing guano from the Caribbean islands belonging to Venezuela. A lightly worn copy with dampstain on covers and interior leaves. Covers show some soil, sewn binding is intact.
