No. 918 of 1000 of the Large Paper edition, part of the Great Commanders series, edited by James Grant Wilson. 9.25 x 6.25 inches, light brown cloth with spine label over honey yellow cloth boards, very good, spine darkened, light rubbing, spine label also darkened and rubbed, light tanning to contents, and some offsetting to outermost pages; 482 pp. Bookplate & library sticker of (General) Charles Miller of Franklin, PA (1843-1927, oilman, newspaper and railroad owner, Civil War veteran. Gen Miller attained his title of Major General in the Pa. National Guard, serving two terms as commander of the Division which includes all the troops of the State. He was a veteran of the Civil War, and for 37 years consecutively was commander of Mays Post. No. 220. Grand Army of the Republic in Franklin, a distinction not held by any other Civil War veteran. He was a student of military affairs and his interest in the National Guard unit from this section never waned: for about 25 years, Gen. Miller financed the trips of the local Civil War veterans to national encampments. When infirmities prevented many of the veterans from parading, he led them on foot in their Memorial Day parades and had a leading part in the ritual services at the monument.).
