About This Item
Bloomington, Illinois: 516th Q. M. Regiment "Last Man's Club, [1983?]. HB. Green simulated leather, gilt lettering on front cover, 4to, approximately 200 pp. This book consists of all the mailings sent to members of the 516th Quartermaster Regiment from 1951 to 1983. It was created for a member, Ralph R. Viggers, whose address was unknown until 1983. The 516 Quartermaster Regiment was formed with the help of the American Trucking Association during 1942 and received training at Camp Van Dorn, near Centreville, Mississippi. It shipped out from Wilmington, California, arriving at Khorramshahr, Iran in 1943 as part of the Persian Gulf Command with the task of delivering Lend-Lease material to Russia. After the Allied landings in France, the 516th was transferred to Europe and assigned to George Patton's 3rd Army, hauling gas for Patton's tanks. Included in the compilation are brief histories of events experienced by the 516th Regiment, numerous lists of members with their home addresses, reunion news which were held semi-annually. Illustrated with photographs and one map. A scarce, possibly unique, account of a World War II regiment. Clean, unmarked book, binding tight. Book condition Near Fine.
