First published in nine parts between 1742 and 1745, this if the fifth edition of the work containing nights one to four.Inspired by the successive deaths of his stepdaughter, her husband, and then Young's own wife, this dramatic monologue laments human frailties and describes the Young's musings over death. The adage, 'procrastination is the thief of time' originates from this work.ESTC Citation No. T27215. With page 113 misnumbered 11, as called for. Retaining half title.Inscriptions to front free endpaper and title page head. A smart copy of Young's best known poem. Rebacked, in a full calf binding with back strip laid down. Retaining the original endpapers. Hinges strained but firmly held. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with leaves A3-A7 slightly tenderly held. Inscription to title page head. Large loss of paper to gutter of leaf A6, not affecting text. Pages a touch age toned, with the odd pencil notation and instances of spotting throughout. Very Good
