About This Item

London: The Fanfrolico Press, 1928. Book. Illus. by Hans Holbein. Near Fine. Full Mottled Morocco. Imperial 8vo. xxxv, 590pp. No. 3 of only 75 special copies with both parts continuously paginated contained in a single volume. T.e.g. & others uncut. Titling on spine & Hans Holbein design on front board; all in gilt. Ironically there is no letter from the press issued with this special edition apologizing for the loss of Gosse's final letter to them concerning the book (he died towards the end of its production) & the consequent absence of the planned facsimile that was to be included! An extremely attractive copy with only a hint of rubbing..
