One of twenty-five sets prepared for sale, this set number six. Specially prepared and issued by G. P. Putnam's Sons of New York, from the Smith, Elders & Co. London edition. William Makepeace Thackeray was a famous English novelist known for his satirical works such as Vanity Fair, portrait of British Society, and The Luck of Barry Lyndon, later adapted for a Stanley Kubrick film. Illustrated with two-thousand, one hundred and seventy-five illustrations, of which four-hundred and three are full page plates (eighty in colour to Christmas Books). Collated, complete.
