About This Item
New York: John W. Lovell Company, 1887. First American Edition. Near Fine. First edition in English of the German philosopher's study of the industrial working class in Victorian England. Bound in publisher's original brown cloth over bevel-edged boards, with spine lettered in gilt. Near Fine with faint rubbing to cloth at extremities, and a small, faint stain to the front cover. Tenderness to binding at front of textblock with exposure to several hinges and the first page grouping proud, otherwise sound. The top 1/2-inch of the title page has been excised to remove a former owner's name. The first English-language edition of Engels' first book.
