Original narratives of archaeological discoveries and recoveries with background and interpretive text by author with each selection. For example, in the Andean South American Section, there are writings from Hiram Bingham: The Discovery of Machu Picchu; A. Hyatt Verrill: Mining for Inca Mummies; and several others. There are sections on archaelogical discoveries in Central America (Panama and Nicaragua), Central and Southern Mexico, Maya Lands, United States, Earliest Americans, Northernmost America (Eskimo and Viking). An interesting and even exciting book. Over 100 Illustrative Figures; 30 Maps and Plans throughout; 36 b/w illustration plates. Clean, unmarked, full red cloth binding with gilt figure and titles on spine. Tight and solid sewn binding. Spine has slight movement. A touch of wear to extremities; an eighth inch slit to spine head cloth, center. Previous owner name and address on front endpaper. A 69 is printed on the endpaper and smeared a little. Pages are very clean and completely unmarked. 647 pp. w bibliography & index. 9.25 x 6.25 x 1.5 inches. St. Martin's Press, New York; Macmillan, London; 1967.
