About This Item

Toronto: University of Toronto Press,, 1972. 240 pp, large 8vo (9 3/8" H). B&w photographs. "Mr. Harvey (a professional architect who has been trained and has specialized in conservation) is no theorist and takes the view that contemporary human needs are important and that buildings or groups of buildings must be conserved to accommodate some part of their original function, and must also be regarded in the context of their surroundings. He divides his book into three sections: What to Save and How to Save It (The Town, The Village, The Church and Churchyard), Craftsmanship and Materials, and Continuing Conservation (The Past, the Present and the Future). In these sections building conservation is looked at with an experienced, scholarly but essentially practical view. The book concludes with appendices and notes on sources...enriched with fifty-two photographs, showing conservation at work in the hands of living craftsmen, at Oxford, Winchester and elsewhere, adding much of beauty and value to the text." Book slightly cocked, some light fading to color on top of text block - also a small liquid mark, minor scuffs and discoloration on boards. Dust jacket has light edge wrinkling, light wear at top of spine and flap-folds, slight fading to spine color, minor soiling on front panel. . Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good-.
